Urbanization and food security: evidence from Mali

Income poverty remains the main root of urban food insecurity as purchased represents a major component spending residents. The rapid and increasing urbanization sprawl are concerns for security in Mali. In Mali, 3.6% households, severely insecure prevalence rate households is 7.5%. effect on households’ was assessed literature using only single measure security. this regard, study analyzed both objective subjective measures data from national survey nutrition (ENSAN). collection conducted by Early Warning System against Famine (SAP) 9,782 February 2018. For security, used an OLS model to estimate household expenditure per capita. Using hunger scale (HHS) score, estimated two models (logit ordered probit) capture results logit showed that living areas less secure compared their counterparts rural areas. probit also confirmed more (mildly moderately) Based these results, recommends decision-makers take into account poor when setting up safety net programmes.
